I heard that I can borrow a laptop from the library. How do I do that?

My chrome book won't work for my classes, and my teacher told me I can borrow a laptop from the library.  How do I do that?

Answer

There are two types of laptops that can be borrowed with help from the Library.   The first is a laptop that is for use inside the library only, and can only be borrowed for two hours.  Currently this option is only available at the Sugar Grove Todd Library.  To borrow one of these laptops, just come to the Circulation Desk, and ask to borrow a "library use only laptop".

The other option for borrowing a laptop is made possible by a partnership with the Waubonsee Community College Information Technology department.  The laptop can be borrowed for the entire semester at no charge.  The laptop must be returned at the end of the semester. A new request must be placed for each semester.   To request one of these laptops, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to the "Service Desk" [https://waubonsee.topdesk.net/tas/public/login/saml] using the "Self-Service" button.
  2. Next click the "Student Technology Assistance" button.
  3. On the right side of the screen click "Device Checkout".
  4. Fill out the form
  5. Click the "Submit" button.

After filling out the form someone from the Information Technology department will be in contact to schedule a time and location to pick up the laptop and/or WiFi hotspot.

Please note, laptops and hotspots are made available as supplies permit.   Please make sure to check your email or voice mail regularly in order to not delay your request.
